Job overview

Reporting to the Taxation Manager, the Tax Assistant is responsible for performing day-to-day taxation related activities, such as providing support to Partners, Managers, Staff and Clients, participating in taxation projects, assisting with the maintenance of reports and statistical information, as well as assisting with other projects as directed. In particular, the Tax Assistant is responsible to:

Interpret, understand and execute the detailed instructions / assignment to meet the Client expectations on each assignment;
Understand the departmental budget and objective of the department;

Key accountabilities and responsibilities

To act as a point of contact within the Firm for the Client, together with the Manager and / or Partner. This will involve responding quickly (within 24 hours or earlier on all client requests) to, as well as anticipating, client requests / needs, keeping clients informed of progress in relation to all aspects of the service provided, and maintaining regular contact with clients;
To ensure assignments are completed within agreed time frame and keep Client and Manager informed of overruns;

Education and professional skills / knowledge

Grade 12 Certificate;
Appropriate experience +/- 2 (two) years in the taxenvironment;
IT literate with a high level of competence in MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook);
Ability to work with and maintain confidentiality with sensitive information;
Skilled at written and verbal communication – articulate and able to write appropriate professional communications. Strong interpersonal, a collaborative nature, and the ability to work in a cross-team environment;
Effective time management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks in an appropriate manner;
High values in teamwork, client / customer service and professionalism;
Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, management and client;
